Lately, I have had a three-week semester break. Without any goals or aims in life, I find that turning to social media temporarily smooths the dopamine signals in my brain. However, this satisfaction is only temporary, and I do not feel fulfilled in life. As a result, I tend to go on social media frequently. After a few days of this social media addiction, I realize I am rushing to go online whenever I can without really knowing why.
I do engage in sports like badminton and going to the gym to get away from my phone. But even at the gym, I tend to check social media during the 30-second intervals between exercise sets.
I've come to realize that I have no particular aim during this holiday. I would like to create a mobile application that helps detox from social media addiction, similar to how applications help with smoking and drug addiction. In this digital world, it is possible that a mobile application can help stop social media addiction.
Below is a list of ideas that came to mind:
Minimalist home screen (only basic tools, e.g., reminders, notes, calendar, camera, phone calls)
Remove colorful icons from the phone
Create reminders when entering social media/shopping applications
Block all notifications
